A Gloucester Road Community centre in the Baths?

Bristol North Baths, on the infamous Gloucester Road in Bristol, has served as the community's local swimming pool for over 90 years until the council closed it down in September 2005, despite a long campaign to keep it open.

In early January 2006, a group of concerned local people reclaimed the Baths to highlight the increasing privatization of public spaces. The result was a large swell of public interest and a series of large well attended meetings which provided a forum to discuss the future use of the community buildings.

Since January, the initial local interest has evolved into a large community group made up a variety of local people, young and old, which is reflected in our new name - The Resource Pool. Our aim is to come up with a sustainable management plan for an autonomous vibrant community space in the Baths, that meets local needs and adds to the vitality of Gloucester Road. Support your community!
